『金継ぎ』とは、壊れてしまった器を漆を用いて修復する日本の伝統技法です。
ウルシ科のウルシノキから採取される「漆」は硬化すると抗菌作用や抗酸化作用が高くなり、さらに非常に強力な硬化作用を保ちます。
日本では、そのような漆の性質を利用し、古くは9000年前の縄文時代から器の接着、装飾などに利用していました。
長い歴史を経て漆での器の修復をさらに発展し芸術へと昇華させたのが今日の「金継ぎ」です。
Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese technique for repairing broken vessels using "Urushi lacquer".
Urushi, which is extracted from the poison oak tree of the poison ivy family, has high antibacterial and antioxidant properties when hardened, and also retains a very strong hardening effect.
In Japan, such properties of Urushi have been used for bonding and decorating vessels since the Jomon period, 9,000 years ago.
After a long history, ceramic restoration with Urushi was further developed and sublimated into an art form, which is today's 'Kintsugi'.
